my heart is true .

This show is tearing apart the Dixie State! We have two bands from coming from the western part of VA and two bands from the Seven-Five-Seven. Let me start by talking about The Young Sinclairs, reharvest the lost soul sounds of sixties groups like Love and The Zombies and the psychedelics of Brain Jonestown Massacre. Also, traveling from Roanoke,The Sad Cobras. Minimal electrogaze, reminiscent of Low, Galaxie 500, and Kiss Me Deadly. The locals on this bill are not short on talent either. Invo, a new local favorite of ours, combine the charm of The Smiths, the elegance of Kent, and power of Muse. As you can see, a band with those kind of influences are always worth checking out (and their tight as shit live!). Opening the evening is a Newport News minstrel that goes by the name of Marcleac, who summons the stylings of G!YBE and Tim Kasher, experimental and wonderful.

don't hassle me .

On this evening, we have invited a few choice locals into out comfortable little abode, to jam for our listening pleasure. Let me tell you about them. Under Twilight Sleep, a promising young band, that take their dynamics from the school of Chicago style math rock - Rodan, June of 44 and mix it with the cinematic explosiveness of Slint. These lads are definitely a group to watch and to experience live. Radio Flyer is also on the bill and pry themselves in crafting songs that swell and build, then suddenly, crash and fade. A couple of kids that I believe should be on the Constellation label. And rounding out the bill is local crooner, Seamonster, which could best be described as the love monster of Stephen Merritt and Jens Lekman, that resides in a dream like state. This show is not to be missed!

pickup game shuffle  .

This show was orginally set up with Great White Jenkins and OK Bird and they will be missed but not to worry the lovely Miss Sarah Carter will be taking their place and she will sing us some lovely hymns with her autoharp. Paleo is back and you might have seen him last time he was round and his jingle jangle folk songwriting is top-notch. This will be the first visit by Scourge of The Sea and on their tour poster they are all wearing chuck taylors so I had to give it a listen. It's a delicious dose of bright sing song rock n roll. The kind perfect for your headphones when riding in the family station wagon. Who wants to go to Pluto?

rebuilt and fashionable .

So you would like to time travel back to the dust bowl years but you want to bring your tweed jacket, a pair of hi-tops, and maybe a decent full brim hat. I want to ramble around the landscapes to sincere piano solos and be spoken to with a soft anecdotal measure. Then at night I want to ramble around the honky tonks and chat it up with future lovers and fight the ghost pirates with my quick draw. My fingertips begin to smoke when the music gets warm and hollow. You know it might be fun to ride around in a Model T with Dylan and Fahey while talking imperialism and feeding a knuckle sandwich to a feudal lord. Just might. Maybe one day. I would punch Charlemagne right in the nose.

And it's organic. Mighty Leaf! That is what it's called. Plus we are now selling retail size versions of Larry's Beans in a small take home 1 lb bag. The flavors are Bean Martin, Frank Sumatra, Larry's Pure Guatemalan. One day at a time we are becoming an actual cafe. Who knows, maybe one day we'll make a profit like a real retail establishment!
