Dear People,

This will be our new special announcement section or maybe just a way for us to communicate what we are up to when we appear to be out of sorts. We have had a stressful week turning the store over for spring but the other seasons should be easier as we have a much better idea how to do this, not to mention a lot of the work was just upgrading some of our displays and what not. Just let you know we will be giving away tickets to the Stellastar/Editors show to everyone who buys a copy of the Editors cd (the ad below will give you all you need to know). We confirmed a big comedy event on May 15th with Michael Showalter, Eugene Mirman, and Leo Allen which will be completely outrageous. Plus we have Half-handed Cloud coming April 19th whose short folk pop gems will be a very nice treat. Also for next season we are planning a Summer Stories series with musicians who kind of tell a story with their music much in the way Neil Young did with his Greendale album. If you know anyone or have any ideas please let us know - we will be shipping in some tables and chairs for these events so don't comment on how we have no tables and chairs. Anyhow take for now and hope this update treats you right.

SeieS is Larsen’s fifth full length and work on it began when the band was recording Play. However where Play was Larsens most orchestrated ambient work SeieS tends to be quite a bit more song-oriented. Tracks like The Snow Haula and Marzia are Larsens most sinister compositions disturbing soundscapes that would fit very well in a David Lynch movie. The remaining tracks feature female vocals thanks to ex Swans chanteuse
Jarboe.

Washington Post Recorded in the fall of 1970 for WBAI on Bob Fass legendary Radio Unnamable this release finds Tom Rapp in an intimate live trio setting. Producer and engineer Joe Phillips says, "I recall playing the original tape for Tom Rapp in his living room in Woodstock NY. He would periodically lean in closer to the speakers as if studying the nuances of his vocals and the underlying
implications of his voice and the interpretations of the musical arrangement." He commented that this could be an album. Indeed 35 years later it finally is.

Joaquin Phoenix directed the latest People In Planes video "If You Talk Too Much (My Head Will Explode)" at the Ontario, California International Airport. Mr. Jo-Ah-Quin has a super awesome scar on his grill, so the video must be somewhat interesting. This is a solid release.

Piano Magic
Incurable

Release Date: 03/28/06
Label: Important
CD: $9.98
A new 4 track EP of brand new material from London's Piano Magic. Brings to mind the mid-'80s 4AD Records ethereal romanticism of This Mortal Coil, Cocteau Twins and Dead Can Dance. It's a glacially produced, though spiritually warm set of songs which evoke beautiful, though bleak, European winter landscapes, lost causes and broken hearts.

Genre/Style: Folk / Rock
Rammenstein
Rosentrot

Release Date: 03/28/06
Label: Universal
CD: $15.98
Rosenrot translates as Red-Rose. The fifth album from the Berlin sextet of Till Lindemann (vocals), Paul Landers (guitar), Christoph Schneider (drums), Richard Z. Kruspe (guitar), Flake Lorenz (keyboards) and Oliver Riedel (bass) make the impossible possible. They bring together what does not belong together: the Brothers Grimm and Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. Yes, it sounds absurd, but its merely a stylistic device. The title fitting for this Rammstein album. Its a word like a poem, brimming with meaning and import; a poem that unites the beautiful with the ugly, the gentle with the cruel, and life with death.

Genre/Style: Rock / Industrial
Slomo
The Creep

Release Date: 03/28/06
Label: Important
CD: $14.98
'If the doom metal of Khanate is the ideal soundtrack to the 21st Century Odinists' hanging upon the tree of Yggdrasil, then the vegetal music of Slomo is the unfolding, nurturing, ever-becoming ur-ooze that titanically irrigates the roots of that sacred tree. Slomo restores our timeless beginnings and fulfills the Ginnungagap -- motherfuckers.' --Julian Cope. "The Creep by Slomo is one full length track packaged in a deluxe Important Records gatefold cardboard jacket printed on both sides with two custom inserts by Slomo. The Creep was originally released on Julian Cope's Fuck Off And Di label in a limited edition of 100 which sold out instantly. Since, it's quickly gained massive underground status after being propped up by the likes of Sunn O))) and The Wire.

Genre/Style: Metal / Doom
This is Your Captain Speaking
Storyboard

Release Date: 03/28/06
Label: Resonant
CD: $17.98
Full release of an album that has been subject to overwhelming praise worldwide as a result of the initial pressing on the band's own label last year. Within the seven tracks of sprawling, intelligent, complex, emotive and thoroughly engaging post-rock on Storyboard, the band have produced a staggering debut album with a widescreen, epic and ultimately very powerful end product that belies their inexperience -- the strength being the sensational interplay between the guitars, layered over the drums, with occasional appearances from the xylophone and even a typewriter. The album is self-produced, and was recorded in the library of a primary school. This Is Your Captain Speaking are a three-piece that hail from Melbourne, Australia, and this first opus promises a great deal, with comparisons drawn to the likes of Scenic, Silver Ray and Dirty Three.

Genre/Style: Rock / Post Rock
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Show Your Bones

Release Date: 03/28/06
Label: Interscope
CD: $13.98

It's been three years since we've heard from the Yeah Yeah Yeah's, but the NYC trio is back with Gold Lion, their second full length release. It seems frontwoman Karen O has adopted a bowl-cut and tamer sense of squeal these days, while Nick Zinner still knows how to rumble the distortion pedal. I think this album is a step backward from their 2003's Fever to Tell but it will suffice for my Friday night rump shake before I hit Badabings, the hautest club in Va Beach. Hip-Hop dot com gave it a 9.5 out of 10 and that's cuz they know what's up.

Tres Chicas
Bloom Red and the Ordinary Girl

Release Date: Mar 06
Label: Yep Rock
CD: $16.98

"When Caitlin Cary, Tonya Lamm, and Lynn Blakey bring their voices together they convey sweet heartache and the world weary acceptance that comes to insightful gals on the tall side of thirty" raves Rolling Stone. The sophomore effort from Tres Chicas was
recorded in London and features the production work of Neil Brockbank and Robert Trehern and guest appearances by Nick Lowe and Geraint Watkins. The broadened instrumentation and musical range found on the new record serves to better highlight the impeccable interplay between their voices and the passionately romantic soulfully earthbound stories of love contained within their lyrics.

Whatever People Say I Am That's What I'm Not

Release Date: Feb 06
Label: Domino
CD: $11.98

The reference points are wide and varied. Musically there's musical bit of The Stone Roses, Whats The Story Morning Glory?, and Nevermind. As catchy as those reference points are, it’s the lyrics that has won them this fiercely dedicated crowd. Mixing the observational storytelling of Davies and Weller crossed with the harsher documentary eye of Mike Skinner of the Streets and Ghost Town- era Specials.

Kickball
ABCDEFGHIJKickball

Release Date: Mar 06
Label: Yo Yo

Kickball makes the kind of songs a slow bear might hum while collecting some breakfast berries. Their shit is heavy like mice whispering in kitchen cupboard caves. But with this, their third album, the slow bear and whispering mice have started to beat it up much faster, and Olympias Kickball has created a dirt-stomping dinosaur that comes bearing the gifts of Lisa Schonbergs rattlesnake drums ticking like bombs that never explode, Jacob Wilsons guitars like pebbles bouncing around in glass jars, and Adam Oelsners bass like the abominable snowman swinging a gigantic fish onto a pan pipe.
