Haram
self-titled

Release Date: 03/14/06
Label: Lovitt
CD: $11.98 Sale $9.98
The latest addition to the Lovitt Records roster,
Haram's members boast an impressive hardcore pedigree, a resume that spans a decade and over 1000 shows between the individual members with stints in Majority Rule, PG. 99, and The Out_Circuit. Haram
Comprises seasoned veterans whose foray into territory most reminiscent of Drive Like Jehu and Sonic Youth is informed by the urgent ferocity of their previous bands. On this spectacular debut, Haram mines disparate facets of punk and noise to conjure something
wholly cohesive and engaging. Unrelenting and forward, Haram possesses a mature, tempered confidence that only comes with experience and do-it-yourself resolve. Their first full-length effort is truly a moody and atmospheric masterpiece.

I Can Lick Any Sonofabitch In The House
Live at Dante's
Release Date: 03/14/06
Label: In Music We Trust
CD: $15.98
Playing the Taphouse 3-28!! No holds barred Rock n Roll that pulls no punches in its outspokenness against homophobia, racism, and an unruly administration led by one George W. Bush, Portland, Oregon's loudest rock band, I Can Lick Any Sonofabitch in the House. Live At Dantes, is the truest representation of their live sound that you can find on record. Thats because it's a live record, recorded at their favorite Portland, Oregon club, Dantes, a club that has supported them since their inception in 2002.

Lanterna
Desert Ocean

Release Date: 03/14/06
Label: Badman / Jemez Mountain
CD: $13.98

Debut release on Badman Recording Co.'s new instrumental- only imprint Jemez Mountain. The ten songs on Desert Ocean were inspired by Henry Frayne's recent travels across the U.S. and Europe and conjure the natural beauty the guitarist soaked up while touring in support of his last album. The winding roads, mountain canyons and beautiful scenery he experienced are marvelously captured in the album's ambient guitar-scapes. Amazingly, Frayne achieves this through relatively modest means. Employing just a few classic guitars and joined only by recording mate Eric Gebow on drums, Lanterna's sound is completely enveloping, harkening back at times to the psychedelic sonic washes of early Pink Floyd.

Genre/Style: Pop / Instrumental

Leaving Rouge
Elsewhere

Release Date: 03/14/06
Label: Greyday Productions
CD: $14.98
After releasing the White Houses EP in 2004, Leaving
Rouge locked themselves inside a Detroit warehouse for over a year to write and compose. The result is Elsewhere, the bands third release and first fully realized album. Elsewhere sees the band focusing more on songs and less on the atmospherics and textures that marked their first releases, resulting in a rich, well-crafted piece of Midwestern damage (a la The Replacements or Red House Painters) with nods to indie rocks roots (The Smiths, REM) while retaining the bands hard- earned sound and naked lyricism.

Never Trust A Hippy

Release Date: 03/14/06
Label: Fat Wreck Chords
CD: $7.98
NOFXs long standing dislike for hippies has just taken
on a whole new meaning, with the realization that the hippy of all hippies was in fact Jesus! The six new songs on Never Trust A Hippy arent just about hippies and Jesus, although both are scrutinized sufficiently. NOFX remain on course in their quest to demolish the boundaries of punk rock with the dub/post-punk/beatles-inspired Marxist Bros.

The Hardest Walk

Release Date: 03/14/06
Label: Alive
CD: $14.98
LP: $11.98

The Hardest Walk arrives a full two years after the
release of their acclaimed third album Voice Of Treason, and is their best work to date, without question. We recorded and played for 14 hours every day for 28 days, explains Johnny Walker (guitar and vocals), we played every instrument - drums, piano, organ, bass, cello, flute, saxophone, harmonica, sitar, lap-steel guitar, Theremin- everything. For Walker, Ben Swank (drums) and Oliver Henry (guitar and saxophone) theres a sense that this record is an important step in the bands artistic evolution. This studio album transcends the rampant garage blues that had so characterized the bands previous work by taking in a diverse range of influences.

Wayfaring Strangers : Ladies From the Canyon

Release Date: 03/14/06
Label: Numero Group
CD: $19.98
By 1970 the folk revival was all but over. Gone were the days of 'Will The Circle Be Unbroken' and 'If I Had A Hammer.' ABC's Hootenanny had been cancelled. Broadside was out, Rolling Stone in. Richard Farina was dead. Dylan plugged in. Joan Baez and Judy Collins gave way to a younger, more introspective generation of songwriters. The sound that began in the hills and caught fire on the lower east side of Manhattan was now being reborn in the canyons of California. The fruits of folk's second renaissance are collected here. Wedged beneath the infrastructure of the music business, playing in coffee houses and at church picnics. Deeper than recent crit-revisionist darlings Linda Perhacs, Judee Sill, or Vashti Bunyan, Ladies From The Canyon takes a solid look at folk's private and obscure underbelly. Featuring fourteen tracks by unknowns Carla Sciaky, Judy Kelly, and Marj Snyder, relative unknowns Mary Perrin, Caroline Peyton, and Ginny Reilly, off-the-mappers Shira Small, Becky Severson, and Jennie Pearl, and a mind-melting six minute cover of 'Sister Morphine'.

Final 3

Release Date: Feb 06
Label: Neurot Recordings
CD: $15.98 Sale $10.98

Final serves as an undefinable and experimental
interpretation of Justin Broadricks's more recognized music; encompassing the brutal and the dark, the beautiful and the melodic. The term 'ambient' is often used to describe the sound of Final, but the music is not designed to function purely as background as the term 'ambient' generally implies.

Low Skies
All the Love I Could Find

Release Date: Feb 06
Label: Flamshovel
CD: $13.98 Sale $10.98
Low Skies second long player, All the Love I Could
Find, is firmly rooted in gothic Americana, but with a contemporary aim that gives a sturdy pulse to the songs. Chris Salveters balladry, guttural and gorgwous, burns with a newfound conviction. His eerie fictional tales of love and death have been largely replaced by equally haunting, yet even more powerful, stories of a very private history. The songs and melodies intertwine creating an oddly cohesive personal study in loss, loneliness, and heartbreak. Its the dark end of the human spectrum thats often feared and avoided, and thats precisely where Low Skies resides, delivering it bruised and beautiful, with teeth bared and arms outstreched.

Pink Razors
Waiting to Wash Up

Release Date: Jan 2006
Label: Robotic Empire
CD: $13.98 Sale $11.98
So Robotic Empire, home to bands ranging from Pig
Destroyer to Cursive, Daughters to Torche, and Isis to Ed Gein has never exactly been known as any particular kind of label; but I’d say it wouldn’t be unfair to expect stoner-metal, tangents of grindcore, and more experimental, heavy punk bands (such as pg, 99, who almost single-handedly put the label on the map), and similarly progressive forms of aggressive music from this Richmond-based troupe. So they threw the music community for a bit of a loop by snagging their hometown’s Pink Razors shortly after their formation. The four-piece Razors play run-of-the-mill pop-punk. The idea though, is that it isn’t so run-of-the-mill. When I say pop-punk though, you must understand that I don’t mean Blink 182 or any of the shit sold at the mall as punk right now. I meanthe So-Cal, East Bay, and Chicago schools of punk. Pink Razors hit all the bases covered by the Descendents, Screeching Weasel, Fifteen, etc. Were they not going bankrupt, I would expect Lookout to have been all over this band. Seriously, good garage punk. Snotty, but not aggressive. This is nothing new, it’s the four friends playing fast, fun music and some friends of theirs put it out for them. And it’s awesome! - Aircraft

Do you think Unicorns?

Vince Ratti met Rachel Minton at summer camp in 2000. Vince was the 2-1 favorite in the potato sack races and Rachel had made a name for herself as the braces and head-gear wearing champion of the "who can swing the highest on the tire swing" competitions. They crossed paths for the first time by the Good Humor Ice Cream truck where they both ordered Sno-Cones. "I like to rock", said Vince. "I like to rock too", said Rachel. At that moment, Zolof the Rock & Roll Destroyer was born. The band started out playing for their families at pool parties and holidays. Vince was the hip-swaying lady swooner with the guitar, and Rachel was the blonde-haired pixie diva with the microphone. Before long, the kids in their neighborhood became such big fans that the band was often asked to play the national anthem before local stick ball games.

Just don't miss the show.

This is love.

I am intensely excited about this show. I never gave Jackie-O much of a chance when I first heard them a couple years ago because it was kind of noisy and I just said "Burp! I have other CDs." But a friend told me that I should pay closer attention and that I should have not written them off so quickly. Well it turns out I screwed up. We have been jamming their latest record Flags of the Sacred Harp and I am telling you that this stuff feels so good you would think it was made from crush velvet. Plus it will make you smarter - serious. Put it on and you will see answers to your problems - and this answer will be that there is no problem. Welcome to the matrix. Jackie-O Motherfucker!
