Beautiful Girls
We're Already Gone

Release Date: 02/14/06
Label: Cornerstone
CD: $13.98
Like its predecessors, We re Already Gone is a raw album and a collision of styles. It occasionally dips into the same pool of influence as other material from TBG, but that s where the similarities end. The songs, for the most part, are darker - though there are still trademark moments of melodic beauty. Mostly, it is a collision of structure and riff; a mix of art, dub and rock.

What Was She Doing on the Shore That Night?

Release Date: 02/14/06
Label: Hush Records
CD: $13.98
What Was She Doing on the Shore That Night, bridges the transition from songwriter to full-tilt band. Whereas the wide-open spaces of the opening title track may recall Reclinerland, the band ratchets it up on track two with disco bass, Pulp-inspired vocal swagger and both a string and horn section. This is no garage band. This is ambitious pop, ebullient and clever, destined to raise eyebrows and get toes tapping.

Pancake Mountain Series

Release Date: 02/07/06
Studio: Monkey Boy

3 DVDs
see below
Why are today's great bands begging to go on the kiddie show 'Pancake Mountain'?

You have to see to believe Pancake Mountain, the Washington, D.C., cable-access show on which alt-rockers like Ted Leo, Scissor Sisters, and the Arcade Fire play before an audience of energetic little kids, most of whom are barely out of potty training. MTV could never dream up a show that once featured Fugazi god Ian MacKaye lip-syncing a kiddie ditty he wrote called "Vowel Movement." Such moments have made Pancake Mountain the coolest TV booking in rock. "Bands started hearing about it and called us," founder Scott Stuckey says. And they're not the only appreciative souls out there. "So many parents write us," says Stuckey, "and they're like, 'Wow, this is something I really like watching with my kids, rather than the Wiggles.'" Watch it at Pancakemountain.com -LUKE ZALESKI

Okay it is time to get your history lesson on and Marc Bolan is the subject at hand. Born to Boogie is that nonsense adventure which shines a light on a time when it was much cooler to be stoned. I must say it feels like such a waste of time these days. Ringo Starr and Elton John are all over this piece and while I can't say the film tells much of a story during it's length I will say that the music is so damn good all you really want is just a bunch of wild pictures to go with. Come on out for a fantastic time.

A Visual Return
20 Drawings/20 Songs

Heather Bregman, native to Virginia Beach and student at VCU in Richmond, displays 20 pieces each inspired by a song from her private collection.

"This will be a series of 20 drawings inspired by 20 songs that i have been absorbing and enjoying the past few weeks. The tracks consist of new and not so new artists that have been complied by another source and sent for my liking. Some of the artists included are: Deerhoof, Seu Jorge, The Beta Band, Peter and the Wolf, and John Lennon. These drawings are done in hopes of isolating each track for the viewer/listener to experience a visual return or response to a construction of sound."
