Artanker Convoy

I had never heard of Artanker Convoy until Dave and I opened, Relative Theory. I believe Dave ordered their first album Mature Fantasy and when it came in, I was doing inventory and immediately intirigued by the cover - a couple of older guys with moustaches and beards who looked like they were in Sprockets and had access to the best weed in Brooklyn. I popped it in and fell in love. I connected with their music because it reminded me a lot of some of my favorite Beastie Boys tracks, Eugene’s Lament, Namaste, and Lighten Up. A fantastic blend of Krautrock, Bossa, Jazz, Dub and some of the early New York Noise artist like Liquid Liquid and ESG.
Artanker Convoy are back next month with, Cozy Endings, a CD / DVD release on The Social Registry. The tracks that make up their new album were composed for the the dance / video piece “Egoist” by Mux and for the film “Fish Kiss” directed by Morgan Jacobson. I haven’t seen the DVD that accompanies Cozy Ending, but the compact disc is amazing. I have spun it several times and it’s a soundtrack full of dub, lounge, late seventies Miles, and the middle east. Cozy Endings is recommended for fans of Tortoise, Pharaoh Overlord, Fight the Big Bull, The In Sound from Way Out! and will be available June 19th.
Below is a video done from Artanker Convoy’s last album, Mature Fantasy and is on the DVD for Cozy Endings.
“I think that smell’s like it’s ready.”
