Ostinato

Thursday, October 12th, 2006 < author: j dub >

For the last few months, we have been talking to the DC / Charlottesville based band Ostinato about trying to setup a show. Unfortunately, due to scheduling conflicts on both ends, we have not been able to pull the trigger and get these guys on our stage. These guys are incredible and I couldn’t wait [...]

Colour Revolt

Monday, October 9th, 2006 < author: david >

You may have seen these guys open up for Brand New this past summer, in which case you were incredibly lucky as I don’t imagine you expected such an opener. You can listen to some tracks on their myspace and Mattresses Underwater definitely has influences of Coldplay or a hundred other brit pop bands. [...]

Modest Mouse

Monday, October 9th, 2006 < author: david >

I got an update about Modest Mouse shows sent via email and it mentioned their new album has an early 2007 release date. It is entitled We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank. This is all nice and good but what I am wondering is what the above image pertains to. [...]

Your Black Star

Monday, October 9th, 2006 < author: j dub >

Your Black Star, is a post punk / new wave band from Louisville, KY. They aren’t as fashionable or as stylish as Interpol, Heavens or most of the other bands trying to be hip. Their songs have more of a bite to them, combining early U2 with the atmospherics of The Cure, and vocals that [...]

Dilla Track

Monday, October 9th, 2006 < author: j dub >

Has everyone heard the new Stones Throw jammer, Chrome Children yet? It’s been in heavy rotation in my itunes (so much so, that I think I need to give that Baron Zen record another shot) and I need to know a little info on the J Dilla track, because it’s driving me crazy.
Who is [...]

Will Kimbrough

Sunday, October 8th, 2006 < author: david >

In case you don’t know who the hell Will Kimbrough is, there is a great article HERE on his own website nonetheless. Anyhow he puts out a tremendous soul sound over his Americana style which is perfect for the scene in the movie where the two lovers reflect on their relationship and realize breaking [...]

Beck

Friday, October 6th, 2006 < author: david >

Beck’s new album, The Information, is out this week and some people think he can do no wrong, others think he is a quirky idiot. I’m am going to side with can do no wrong. Aside from the actual record, this promo photo was emailed to me for the new album. Is [...]

Foreign Born and Cold War Kids

Friday, October 6th, 2006 < author: david >

Anyhow [...]

TV on The Radio played Morning Becomes Eclectic on Sept. 22. Having the internet is kind of cool when you now get all the cool radio stations. KCRW, KEXP, WXPN, and now WOXY is back (although it only looks to be online - which is fine).

Unwed Sailor

Friday, October 6th, 2006 < author: j dub >

There is a new song posted on the Unwed Sailor myspace, called Gila, and I must say, is incredibly gorgeous. Combing the minimal-shoegazeness of Early Day Miners (who have done a split together) with dark and brooding sounds of The Black Heart Procession.
There is a good chance that we will be doing a show [...]

Papercranes | Dustin Hogue

Thursday, October 5th, 2006 < author: j dub >

Papercranes will be performing tonight at the record store. We are extremely fortunate to have this sextet gracing our stage. Papercranes, are a soft and elegant chamber pop outfit, that teeters between lo-fi and ambiance, all the while sounding sophisticated and beautiful. Papercranes are from Gainesville, FL and fronted by Rain Phoenix [...]

Wednesday, October 4th, 2006 < author: j dub >

Forget Cassettes are doing a quick jaunt up the eastern seaborg, as they are on their way up to NYC for CMJ. Bound Stems have been hellaciously touring this past summer and now, their tour is winding down at the end of Oct. on the east coast.
Both of them will be playing together at [...]
