Live Final Fantasy

< author: guava >

The following link will take you to a live video of Final Fantasy (Owen Pallett + violin + looping pedal) performing This Is the Dream of Win and Regine from his debut album Has A Good Home (2005). This performance was roughly two weeks ago at a Cincinnati venue formerly know as Alchemize. Receiving many “best of” awards for 05 and 06, Alchemize officially and unexpectedly closed its doors this July. I was googling this venue and did not find a pin point reason as to why this awesome place shut down. Thus, upcoming shows were moved to another place, the art was removed from the walls, and all the was dishware packed away. Anyway, check out this video; Owen smiles and his character makes me wish I was one of the twenty (!) people who saw him that summer evening not too long ago…

being that they shut down they should have cared a little more about the money. if one thing can re-open Alchemize, it’s money. everytime Relative has to do something shitty or can’t do something awesome, it’s because of money.

the video by the way is incredible. not so much the looping part of him building the song (this feat loses it’s grandeur after you have seen it done 50 times), but his voice could not complement the sound of his violin with greater perfection. I think Owen should get a production of Final Fantasy on Ice, this would however require lots of money and a whole lot more than 20 people in attendance.

I still dont like He Poos Clouds. go figure.

I swear to the Gods of Violin that I was listening to that Wu-Tang Song three songs before I clicked on this post. Thanks CMJ.

    “they care less…”

it’s not that they didnt care about the benjamins, but that they’d rather book an incredible band rather than fall out boy (for example) that’d sell the fuckin house out.

ah they cared less BUT they should have cared a little more. who are they booking now?

Final Fantasy covering Bloc Party.’s This Modern Love. Not a huge fan of this song, but the cover is amazingly well put together.

Just for the record, Alchemize didn’t exactly shut down. I’d rather say we’ve relocated. We had been downtown in a less than stellar neighborhood. Cars got broken into constantly, kids coming to shows would always get hassled for money from homeless crackheads, pretty much not the ideal setting for an indie rock venue.

SO! we’ve moved to a new (and much better) space across the river in Covington, KY (a little west of the Southgate House in Newport). The Anchor Center will continue taping the shows, interviewing the artists, and now, with this new venue, we’ll be able to do even more. So yeah…hopefully that clears some of this up?
