OG Spearhead

< author: ill lit >

Why does everybody hate America? Remember when we didn’t suck? Or, at least when we didn’t have the internet and pesky truth-telling reporters to blow up our western-imperialist-capitalist spot? Anyhoo…

If politicians had listened to Michael Franti’s caustic critiques of American society from the jump, I’d have a little more hope for the future of this country. Seriously, dude has been on the prophetic tip for over a decade first with Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy and then with Spearhead. (Witness the ‘95 “Hole in the Bucket” boom-bap hip-hop 12″ in the used vinyl section right now.) For the past few years Franti has been active and vocal about the shit going down in the Middle East, particularly in Gaza. In fact, give myspace a rest just for today and get your learn on here by listening to a 2004 interview with Franti on Democracy Now!–get your head out the sand, sukah!

Look for Relative soon to feature Franti’s new DVD that deals with his travels in the Middle East and, of course, his music.
