De La Oates
< author: ill lit >
I’ma skip the knowledge this time and just be direct: if anyone reading this has been the victim of miseducation and thinks that Hall and Oates are a corny 80s group, your antidote of truth sits waiting at Relative Theory.
The soulful-oreo duo that is Hall and Oates are co-chillin in the used vinly section in the form of Greatest Hits Vol. 1. Sure, yeah, there’s the unmistakable sample on De La Soul “Say No Go.” And, the Rza took his cue from H2O on a certain Wu-Tang banger (any guesses?). But all this is of little importance considering the fact that I’ve seen “I Can’t Go For That (No Can Do)” wreck dancefloors from Landlord Jim’s in San Diego to the Arc Bar in Bristol–if I may wax autobiographical for a moment (get it, wax…). Simply stated: it seldom leaves the crate, mate.
