daturah

I recently stumbled across this instrumental band from Frankfurt, Germany called daturah. This quartet created a monumental disc of ambient noise rock. Combining the glimmering shoegaze of Antarctica, the abstract transmissions of Godspeed You Black Emperor and the doom-laden urgency of Mogwai. Their self-titled disc is filled with bleak soundscapes, constructed with expectation, intensity, and passion.

this is incredible. i read in cometbus about these families in the hippy hills of s. california that lived in tents and then built houses with tarpaper for shingles. they revolved around pot farms, but told everyone else they were carpenters. anyway, with no tv the kids magnetized to the radio and listened to german soccer chants and horrible christmas tunes that played year round. it’s unfortunate this lengthy masterpiece could never cross their waves. this is nuts.

I recently learned of this amazing new band via a website for music reviews.

And of course by listening to them on MySpace.

I think Daturah is phenomenal! The way they play is filled with emotion and a kind of rock pureness that I haven’t seen or heard in quite a long time.
While there are other bands today that I love, there is something different about this group. I don’t think anyone should miss out on these potential music legends of tomarow.
